Tue Apr 08 16:19:17 UTC 2025: **Skymet Predicts Normal Monsoon for India in 2025**
NEW DELHI – Private weather agency Skymet Weather has predicted a near-normal monsoon season for India from June to September 2025. The agency forecasts rainfall 3% above the long-term average of 868.6 mm, with a margin of error of +/- 5%. This falls within the range considered “normal” (within 4% of the long-term average).
The prediction is based on the weakening of La Niña and the absence of El Niño, weather patterns that typically influence monsoon patterns. Skymet anticipates good rainfall in western and southern India, with adequate rainfall in key agricultural regions like Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh. However, they also predict excess rainfall along the Western Ghats, particularly in Kerala, coastal Karnataka, and Goa, while the northeast and hilly northern states may experience below-average rainfall.
The agency’s month-by-month forecast shows slightly below-average rainfall in June (4% below normal), followed by above-average rainfall in July (2% above), August (8% above), and September (4% above).
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) is expected to release its monsoon forecast later next week, with a more detailed regional breakdown in mid-May. India experienced 8% above-average rainfall during the 2024 monsoon season.
