Wed Apr 09 08:44:40 UTC 2025: ## Bengaluru Farmers Market Aims to Cut Out Middlemen, Aid Farmers
**Bengaluru, Karnataka, April 9, 2025** – In a bid to alleviate the struggles of farmers in Karnataka, the Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha (KRRS) is launching a three-day farmers’ market in Bengaluru. The initiative, dubbed “nera maaraatada mulaka namma horata” (our struggle through direct marketing), will allow farmers to sell their produce directly to consumers, bypassing middlemen and traders.
The experimental market, taking place from April 12-14 at the Munivenkatayya Memorial Open Air Theatre in Rajarajeshwarinagar, will feature vegetables, grains, jaggery, and oil. The KRRS is prioritizing the first 100 farmer registrations. KRRS leader Chukki Nanjundaswamy explained the initiative aims to ensure farmers receive fair prices while consumers access affordable, quality produce. She highlighted the current market’s failings, citing the high number of farmer suicides in India and the significant decline in agricultural employment.
Nanjundaswamy expressed disappointment with the lack of progress in ensuring Minimum Support Prices for farmers, prompting this direct-to-consumer approach. She also emphasized the potential for consumers to contribute further by purchasing produce for those in need. The KRRS is seeking support from prominent figures, including actors and writers, to promote the initiative. The organization hopes to expand the market to other areas of Bengaluru based on the success of this pilot program.
