Wed Apr 09 12:48:19 UTC 2025: ## BSNL Remains Committed to 2G Users Despite 4G Expansion in South India

**Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu – April 9, 2025** – While private telecom companies focus on 4G and 5G services, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) continues to serve over 1.18 lakh customers in Tirunelveli, Tenkasi, and Thoothukudi districts who rely on 2G feature phones. These phones remain crucial for residents in remote areas with limited 4G access, including farmers, fishermen, and those in hilly regions.

BSNL’s General Manager, S. Krishnakumar, emphasized the company’s commitment to its loyal 2G user base, noting that the company serves a total of 4.4 lakh subscribers across the three districts. He acknowledged ongoing challenges in providing seamless 4G service due to the simultaneous operation of both 2G and 4G networks using domestically produced equipment. These challenges, including call drops and poor voice quality, are being addressed by a team of engineers.

Mr. Krishnakumar attributed the issues to the simultaneous management of older and newer technologies, a contrast to private providers who have largely phased out 2G and 3G. BSNL is actively upgrading its 4G infrastructure with D Band equipment, aiming for significant improvements by the end of May. The company has also seen a surge in new subscribers from competitors, attributed to its competitive pricing. The company’s dedication to serving its diverse customer base highlights its commitment to bridging the digital divide in the region.
