Wed Apr 09 07:13:57 UTC 2025: ## Iranian Women Fueling Boom in Nose Jobs Amidst Societal Pressures

**Tehran, Iran** – Rhinoplasty, or nose jobs, are experiencing a surge in popularity in Iran, driven largely by societal pressures and the desire for Western beauty standards. This is despite strict dress codes for women and economic hardships affecting millions.

According to the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS), over 264,000 cosmetic procedures were performed in Iran in 2023, with rhinoplasty leading the way. The procedure is seen as a way to improve social standing and financial prospects, as highlighted by model Azadeh (surname withheld), who reported a tripled income and enhanced career opportunities after her surgery.

The trend, fueled by the desire for a more “Western” look, is further amplified by the strict social norms imposed since the 1979 Islamic revolution, which focus attention on the face as the most visible feature. The relatively low cost of the procedure compared to other countries (up to $1,000) also contributes to its appeal. However, this affordability hasn’t stopped the procedure from impacting personal finances. Azadeh and others have reported borrowing money to finance their operations. Even men are partaking, with hair transplants also gaining popularity.

Despite the high demand, the Iranian government has expressed concern over the rise of unlicensed clinics. In February, authorities cracked down on several unauthorized facilities, highlighting the risks associated with the procedure. The dangers were tragically illustrated last year when three women died during cosmetic surgery in a single day.

Despite these risks, Iranian women, particularly, continue to seek rhinoplasty, illustrating a complex interplay between personal aspiration, societal expectations, and economic realities in the country. The trend underscores the deep-seated cultural influences shaping beauty standards and body image in Iran.
