Wed Apr 09 08:20:00 UTC 2025: ## Shark Tank Judge Fires Back at Sabeer Bhatia’s Criticism of Indian Engineers

**NEW DELHI, April 9, 2025** – Namita Thapar, judge on the popular business reality show *Shark Tank India*, has sharply criticized Hotmail co-founder Sabeer Bhatia’s recent comments on the quality of Indian engineers. Bhatia, during a podcast interview earlier this week, asserted that the vast majority of Indian engineering graduates pursue management roles rather than staying in core engineering fields, calling India a “cheap jack of all trades.”

Thapar, responding via Twitter, rejected Bhatia’s assessment, stating, “I lived in the US for 8 years and met many Indians living there who loved bashing India.” She further urged the Indian government to address the issue of brain drain, tweeting, “Dear government, please note that brain drain is a real concern and needs introspection.”

Thapar also subtly challenged Bhatia’s perspective, implying that criticizing from afar is easier than contributing to change within the country. “Mr Bhatia, please note that it’s easy to move to another country and give gyaan [advice] but the real impact and challenge lies in staying in your own country and facilitating change!” she tweeted.

Bhatia’s original comments included a broader critique of India’s lack of specialization in engineering fields. His remarks have sparked a heated debate on the state of engineering education and employment in India. Thapar’s counter-argument highlights the ongoing discussion surrounding brain drain and the need for introspection within both the government and the Indian diaspora.
