**Mangaluru, Karnataka, April 9, 2025** – Mangala Resource Management Pvt., Ltd., a Mangaluru-based eco-startup, has achieved net-negative carbon emissions, according to a recent environmental impact assessment (EIA) study. The study, conducted in partnership with Greener Sustainability Accelerator and J-PAL, revealed that the company’s waste segregation, recycling, and composting initiatives resulted in a reduction of 2,058,256 kg of CO2 equivalent emissions in 2023-24.
Mangala, inspired by the Ramakrishna Mission’s Swatch Mangaluru Abhiyan, operates across Coastal Karnataka. Its success is attributed to the establishment of multiple Material Recovery Facilities (MRFs) in locations including Nitte, Narikombu, Yedapadavu, and Kedambady. These facilities sort waste for recycling, minimizing landfill waste and maximizing resource recovery.
The company has also implemented a “zero waste campus” program in collaboration with several institutions, such as Kateel Sri Durga Parameshwari Temple, Nitte University, and Infosys. The EIA highlighted efficient waste sorting and the Hermi Compost method for food waste as key contributors to the negative carbon footprint.
Managing Director Dilraj Alva stated that Mangala is committed to expanding its waste recovery and recycling initiatives, employing advanced composting techniques, and collaborating with local bodies and educational institutions to promote sustainable waste management practices. The company plans to extend its zero-waste program to more communities in the coming years.
