**Srinagar, April 9, 2025** – Justice Sanjeev Kumar has been appointed as the acting Chief Justice of the Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh High Court, the Law Ministry announced today. This follows the retirement of Chief Justice Tashi Rabstan, who reached the mandatory retirement age of 62 today.
Justice Kumar, a judge of the High Court, will serve as acting Chief Justice until the appointment of Justice Arun Palli, who was recommended by the Supreme Court Collegium on April 4th. Justice Palli’s appointment as the regular Chief Justice is pending. The interim appointment of an acting Chief Justice is standard procedure between the retirement of an incumbent and the appointment of a permanent replacement.
