**Guntur, Andhra Pradesh, April 9, 2025** – The Guntur Municipal Corporation (GMC) has approved a ₹1,534.27 crore budget for the 2025-26 fiscal year, exceeding the previous year’s revised estimates. The budget allocates ₹1,018.23 crore for expenditure and carries forward ₹516.04 crore to the next fiscal year. This includes ₹670.23 crore carried over from the previous fiscal.

The projected expenditure represents a ₹352.52 crore increase compared to the 2024-25 revised estimate. Similarly, projected revenue stands at ₹864.04 crore, a ₹207.83 crore increase year-on-year. The budget’s approval, originally scheduled for March 31st, was delayed due to administrative hurdles, including the Mayor’s resignation, and was finally cleared on April 7th.

GMC Commissioner Puli Srinivasulu stated that the corporation aims for 100% tax collection this year and is working to improve administrative efficiency. A significant portion of the planned ₹187.61 crore capital expenditure will focus on strengthening social infrastructure. This includes allocations of ₹32.08 crore (17.1%) for Scheduled Castes areas, ₹9.99 crore (5.33%) for Scheduled Tribes areas, ₹9.37 crore (5%) for women and child welfare, and ₹75.07 crore (40%) for slum development. The remaining ₹61.10 crore (32.2%) is earmarked for general expenditure. These funds will primarily be used for improvements to drainage systems, road construction, and the expansion of green spaces within the city.
