**Damoh, Madhya Pradesh:** Narendra Vikramaditya Yadav, a man operating under the alias Dr. N John Kamm, has been arrested and remanded to five days of police custody after a shocking NDTV investigation exposed his years-long charade as a qualified cardiologist. Yadav, who lacked any valid medical license, treated dozens of patients and allegedly performed 15 surgeries at Damoh’s Mission Hospital in just 45 days, resulting in seven deaths.
The arrest followed an irate public response to the revelation, with angry locals attempting to assault Yadav as he was escorted to court. The investigation uncovered a trail of deception, including forged medical degrees—an MBBS from North Bengal Medical College, an MRCP from St George’s Hospital, London, and a DM (Cardiology) from Pondicherry University—all of which have been deemed fraudulent. Police confirmed that Yadav’s MBBS registration number belonged to a woman, and the other qualifications lack verifiable records.
Beyond the falsified credentials, Yadav is also accused of theft. CCTV footage shows him arriving at the hospital with a suitcase containing a stolen portable echo machine worth ₹5-7 lakh (approximately $60,000 – $84,000 USD). Hospital Manager Pushpa Khare has filed a complaint regarding the stolen equipment.
This is not Yadav’s first offense. In 2006, he performed surgery on former Chhattisgarh Assembly Speaker Rajendra Prasad Shukla at Apollo Hospital, where eight patients allegedly died during his time there. Even then, suspicions arose about his fraudulent MBBS degree. Anil Shukla, son of the deceased speaker, stated that he suspected wrongdoing during his father’s surgery.
Following the recent revelations, authorities in Chhattisgarh have issued a formal notice to Apollo Hospital, demanding an explanation regarding Yadav’s appointment and the deaths of patients under his care. A Congress delegation also visited the hospital demanding answers.
The Damoh case highlights significant systemic failures. Police are investigating the hospital’s verification process, the Medical Council’s oversight, and the agency that facilitated Yadav’s hiring. The Chief Medical and Health Officer (CMHO) will also be questioned. The investigation aims to determine responsibility for the tragic loss of life, exposing a shocking lapse in medical oversight and verification procedures.
