Tue Apr 08 21:01:00 UTC 2025: ## Fadnavis Rejects Speculation of Modi’s Succession Ahead of 2029 Elections

**Mumbai, April 9, 2025** – Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has firmly dismissed speculation about Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s potential successor, stating that Mr. Modi will lead the country beyond the 2029 general elections. Fadnavis’s comments, made at the India Global Forum in Mumbai on April 8th, directly countered recent claims by Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut.

Raut had suggested that Mr. Modi’s recent visit to the RSS headquarters hinted at an impending retirement, possibly in September, when the Prime Minister turns 75. Raut further speculated that the RSS would choose Mr. Modi’s successor, potentially from Maharashtra.

Fadnavis rejected these assertions, stating that discussing succession while the current leader is still in power is inappropriate. He drew a parallel to cultural norms, emphasizing that such discussions are premature. Senior RSS leader Suresh ‘Bhaiyyaji’ Joshi echoed this sentiment, stating he was unaware of any discussions regarding a replacement for the Prime Minister.

The BJP has consistently maintained that Mr. Modi remains its undisputed leader and will be the party’s face in the 2029 elections.
