Tue Apr 08 17:30:46 UTC 2025: ## Vellore Assistant Engineer Arrested for Bribery

**Vellore, April 9, 2025** – A 34-year-old Assistant Engineer (AE) with the District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) was arrested on Tuesday for demanding a bribe. K. Nirmal Kumar, who works at the Block Development Office (BDO) in Gudiyatham, was apprehended by the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) while accepting a bribe of ₹30,000.

The bribe was allegedly demanded from S. Lingeshwaran, a 45-year-old private contractor, in exchange for clearing pending payment bills for completed civic works. Lingeshwaran had undertaken projects worth approximately ₹53 lakh, including road construction and school building additions, in villages under the Gudiyatham panchayat union. After repeated delays in receiving payment, Lingeshwaran reported the bribe demand to the DVAC.

A seven-member DVAC team, led by Inspector S. Mythili, laid a trap and arrested Nirmal Kumar red-handed. He has been charged with bribery and is currently lodged at the Central Prison in Vellore. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.
