Wed Apr 09 13:57:32 UTC 2025: ## Kerala Cable Car Project Gets Green Light After Eight-Year Delay

**Kozhikode, Kerala – April 9, 2025** – A long-awaited cable car project traversing the Thamarassery ghat road in Kerala has finally received government approval. The ₹100 crore project, spearheaded by Western Ghats Development Limited (WGDL), a company formed by the Wayanad Chamber of Commerce, will connect Adivaram and Lakkidi, significantly boosting tourism in Wayanad and Kozhikode districts.

The project, initially proposed eight years ago, faced several delays due to a change in alignment and legal disputes over land acquisition. However, after eight months of intensive lobbying with government officials, WGDL secured the necessary approvals. Global tenders for the major civil works, including tower construction and cable installation, are expected to be issued soon, following clearance from the Forest Department.

The 3.5 km cable car system, touted as the longest ropeway project in South India, will transport 400 passengers per hour, offering a scenic alternative to the existing 23 km winding ghat road. Stakeholders believe this will be a major boon for domestic tourism, reducing travel time and providing stunning views. Related tourism amenities are also planned for the area. The detailed project report, prepared by a Kolkata-based company, confirms the project’s feasibility and potential.
