Wed Apr 09 17:23:44 UTC 2025: ## Bangalore Water Bills to Increase After 11-Year Gap

**Bengaluru, April 10, 2025** – The Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) announced a long-awaited revision to its water tariffs, effective from the next billing cycle. The increase, formally notified today, aims to address a significant monthly deficit of ₹70 crore, resulting from rising operational costs.

Domestic users will see incremental charges based on consumption, starting at 0.15 paisa per litre for up to 8,000 litres and increasing to one paisa per litre for usage above one lakh litres. A similar slab system applies to high-rise buildings. Non-domestic rates have also been revised, ranging from 0.90 paisa to 1.90 paisa per litre depending on volume. Sanitary charges for borewells and public sources have also increased by ₹30 for domestic and ₹125 for non-domestic users. Sewerage charges have been raised by 25%.

BWSSB Chairman Ram Prasath Manohar stated the increase is necessary to offset a 107% rise in electricity costs and a 122.5% increase in maintenance costs over the past decade. Water conservation expert S. Vishwanath welcomed the move but stressed the need for greater transparency from the BWSSB regarding its expenditures and the details of its sinking fund. He advocates for tariffs that fully recover all costs. The new tariff structure includes new special sanitary categories, indicating a comprehensive overhaul of the billing system.
