Wed Apr 09 11:50:00 UTC 2025: ## Walmart Boycott Sweeps North Carolina Following DEI Policy Rollbacks
**Asheville, NC** – A week-long boycott of Walmart, including its online platforms and Sam’s Club, launched Monday, April 7th, in North Carolina and across the nation. The action, organized by The People’s Union USA, protests the retailer’s rollback of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives following pressure from conservative activists. This boycott coincides with an ongoing 40-day Target boycott, also protesting similar DEI policy changes, and precedes further planned boycotts throughout the year.
The boycott encompasses all Walmart stores (144 in NC), neighborhood markets, discount stores, and Sam’s Club locations (22 in NC), along with all private label brands such as Great Value, Equate, and Mainstays. The protest, which concludes April 14th, comes after Walmart announced changes to its DEI policies last year.
The People’s Union USA, led by John Schwarz, plans additional boycotts, including a three-day economic blackout for Easter weekend. Meanwhile, the 40-day Target boycott, organized by faith leaders including Atlanta Pastor Jamal Bryant, will continue until April 17th. These actions highlight growing consumer activism in response to perceived rollbacks of DEI initiatives at major retailers.
