Wed Apr 09 08:20:00 UTC 2025: ## Malaysian Glove Makers Poised to Benefit from US-China Trade War, Says Analyst

**Kuala Lumpur, October 8** – The escalating US-China trade war is expected to boost Malaysia’s rubber glove industry, according to a new analysis by CIMB Securities Research. With the US imposing an additional 50% tariff on Chinese goods, Chinese glove manufacturers could face tariffs as high as 154%, significantly impacting their competitiveness.

Malaysia, in contrast, faces a considerably lower 24% tariff on glove exports to the US. This makes Malaysian glove manufacturers, already major global players, the most competitive in the US market. CIMB’s report outlines three scenarios, all resulting in significantly higher tariffs on Chinese gloves compared to Malaysian gloves. The most extreme scenario projects a staggering 154% tariff on Chinese gloves in 2025, rising to 204% by 2026.

While this presents a significant opportunity for Malaysian glove makers, CIMB cautions that the increased demand may be offset by Chinese manufacturers shifting their focus to other markets, intensifying competition elsewhere. Furthermore, uncertainty surrounding US trade policy and rising costs could dampen US demand.

Considering these short-term uncertainties, CIMB maintains a “neutral” rating on the glove sector, with top picks being Kossan Rubber Industries (KOSSAN) and Supermax Corporation (SUPERMX).
