Mon Apr 07 18:30:11 UTC 2025: ## Annamalai Steps Aside From BJP Tamil Nadu Presidency Race
**Chennai, April 8, 2025** – K. Annamalai, the Tamil Nadu president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), announced today that he will not be seeking re-election for the post. He stated his preference for direct engagement with the public, prioritizing fieldwork over administrative responsibilities.
“Being a president alone does not give one identity,” Annamalai told reporters. He explained that he has been actively campaigning across the state for four months, aiming to oust the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) government. This grassroots effort, which includes travelling barefoot, will continue to be his primary focus.
Meanwhile, Annamalai took to X (formerly Twitter) to counter Chief Minister M.K. Stalin’s criticism of rising cooking gas prices. He argued that while international prices increased in 2023, India did not see a corresponding price hike in 2024. He also accused the DMK of failing to deliver on its election promise of a ₹100 subsidy per LPG cylinder. Annamalai’s decision leaves the BJP’s Tamil Nadu leadership open for a new candidate.
