**Hyderabad, India –** A pregnant woman was viciously attacked with cement bricks outside a Hyderabad hospital on April 1st, allegedly by her husband, according to police. The incident, captured on video and now circulating widely online, has sparked public outrage.
The accused, identified as Basharath (32), an interior designer, was arrested on April 2nd and appeared in court on April 3rd. Police say Basharath and the victim, Shabana (22), a Kolkata native, met in Rajasthan in January 2023 and married in October 2024 after a whirlwind romance. Shabana had moved to Hyderabad earlier this year, but the couple reportedly experienced marital difficulties.
On March 29th, Shabana was admitted to a private hospital complaining of weakness and vomiting, allegedly revealing to hospital staff that she was being abused by her husband. On April 1st, a dispute ensued when Basharath arrived to take her home, leading him to drag her outside and repeatedly strike her with cement bricks, inflicting 12-14 blows to her head and chest before fleeing.
Hospital staff found Shabana unconscious and she is currently receiving medical treatment. The extent of her injuries and the condition of her unborn child are not yet publicly known. The investigation is ongoing.
