Mon Apr 07 19:24:41 UTC 2025: ## Shipping Minister Inaugurates Advanced Shipbuilding Machinery at Cochin Shipyard
**Kochi, April 8, 2025** – Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, inaugurated state-of-the-art shipbuilding machinery at the Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) on Monday. The new ProArc CNC Plasma Cum Oxy Fuel Plate Cutting Machine will significantly boost CSL’s shipbuilding capacity, enabling real-time monitoring, predictive maintenance, and increased production efficiency.
The Minister also presided over the steel-cutting ceremony for two new tugs under the Green Tug Transition Programme, a key initiative aimed at decarbonizing India’s maritime sector. Furthermore, Sonowal reviewed the progress of India’s largest Trailer Suction Hopper Dredger currently under construction at CSL for the Dredging Corporation of India.
Minister Sonowal highlighted the inauguration of the Industry 4.0-ready facilities and the Green Tug Transition Programme as “a transformative leap in India’s shipbuilding and green maritime journey,” emphasizing the nation’s commitment to innovation, sustainability, and global competitiveness in the maritime sector.
