Tue Apr 08 13:10:30 UTC 2025: ## Ukraine Arrests and Indicts Man Accused of Russian-Ordered Assassinations and Bombings
**Kyiv, Ukraine** – Ukrainian authorities have arrested and indicted a 56-year-old Crimean Peninsula resident accused of carrying out assassinations and bombings on behalf of Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB). The arrest comes amidst a recent surge in targeted attacks against Ukrainian officials and public figures.
The Prosecutor General’s office announced Tuesday that the suspect is charged with the murder of a Ukrainian soldier in March 2024 and plotting the assassination of several high-profile officials, including an attempt on the life of Kharkiv regional head Oleh Synyehubov. The suspect allegedly planted a bomb under the car of another Kharkiv official, Vyacheslav Zadorenko, who discovered and defused the device. He is also accused of detonating explosives at strategically important buildings in Kharkiv.
The Prosecutor General’s office stated that the suspect acted under the direct orders of the FSB, receiving a reported $50,000 bounty for the assassination of Synyehubov. The suspect, described as a long-time offender, allegedly carried out these actions over a period of several months.
This arrest follows the recent assassination of a local lawmaker via car bomb in Dnipro on Friday, highlighting a concerning escalation in targeted attacks. Ukraine has previously thwarted several alleged Russian assassination plots, including a reported attempt on President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s life last May. The FSB has yet to comment on the accusations. The conflict between Russia and Ukraine has seen both sides engage in such targeted attacks since the beginning of the full-scale invasion in February 2022.
