Tue Apr 08 02:52:46 UTC 2025: ## Visakhapatnam GVMC Staff Arrested for Bribery in Death Certificate Case
**Visakhapatnam, April 8, 2025** – Two Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) employees were arrested on Monday by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe. The bribe, amounting to ₹20,000, was solicited from a complainant in exchange for issuing a death certificate.
The accused, identified as Dandi Satya Surya Nagapurna Chandrasekhar, a data entry operator, and Barakala Venkata Ramana, a supervisor, both working on an outsourcing basis in the GVMC Zone-5 Birth & Deaths section, were caught red-handed accepting the bribe on Sunday afternoon.
The bribe was requested to expedite the issuance of a death certificate for M. Srinivasa Rao, a retired Railway Protection Force head constable who died on January 1, 2025. His son, Mandala Bhanu Prakash, approached the GVMC for the certificate and subsequently reported the bribery attempt to the ACB.
ACB Deputy Superintendent of Police B.V.S. Nageswara Rao confirmed the arrests, stating that the complainant had approached the ACB after the outsourcing staff demanded the bribe. The arrested individuals are currently under investigation.
