**WASHINGTON, April 8, 2025** – Vice Admiral Shoshana Chatfield, the only woman on NATO’s military committee, was fired over the weekend, U.S. officials confirmed Monday. The dismissal, attributed to her advocacy for diversity within the armed forces, marks the third firing of a top female officer under the Trump administration.

Officials, speaking anonymously, stated that Adm. Chatfield received notification from Adm. Christopher Grady, acting chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. The decision, reportedly made last week by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, remains unclear whether it was directly ordered by President Donald Trump.

Senator Mark Warner (D-VA) expressed deep concern over the firing, stating that such actions weaken U.S. alliances and national security. The removal of military leaders promoting DEI has sparked widespread criticism from lawmakers and the public. The accountability foundation’s letter to Secretary Hegseth explicitly called for the dismissal of individuals involved in DEI policies, prioritizing “lethality” over diversity in the military.
