Tue Apr 08 17:00:00 UTC 2025: ## South Korean Troops Fire Warning Shots After North Korean Soldiers Cross Border

**Seoul, South Korea** – South Korean forces fired warning shots on Tuesday after approximately ten North Korean soldiers crossed the heavily fortified border between the two countries. The incident, the second in ten months, occurred around 5 PM local time in the eastern sector of the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ).

According to the South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS), the North Korean soldiers quickly retreated after South Korean troops issued warnings and fired warning shots. The JCS stated that the situation is under close monitoring and that appropriate measures are being taken.

The motive for the border crossing remains unclear. Similar incidents have occurred in the past, with officials suggesting previous intrusions may have been unintentional due to factors such as poor visibility and the soldiers’ engagement in construction work near the border.

The DMZ, a 248km-long, 4km-wide area, is one of the most heavily militarized borders globally, riddled with mines and other obstacles. Tensions remain high between North and South Korea, particularly given North Korea’s continued development of nuclear weapons and its alignment with Russia. Despite previous attempts at diplomacy, denuclearization talks between North Korea and the US remain stalled.
