**New Delhi, April 8, 2025** – The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has released purported WhatsApp chats between two Trinamool Congress (TMC) MPs, Kalyan Banerjee and Kirti Azad, revealing a bitter internal feud within the ruling party in West Bengal. The leaked messages, posted on X by BJP leader Amit Malviya, depict a heated exchange between the two MPs, with accusations of childish behavior and references to an unnamed “versatile international lady,” reportedly also a TMC MP.
The authenticity of the messages, which include allegations of excessive drinking and erratic conduct, cannot be independently verified by NDTV. However, TMC leader Sougata Roy acknowledged the embarrassment caused by the leaks, urging Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to take action and stating that internal party matters should remain private.
The dispute reportedly stemmed from an incident on April 4th, 2025, where two TMC MPs engaged in a public spat at the Election Commission of India headquarters after one MP reportedly disregarded instructions to gather at Parliament before submitting a memorandum. This escalated into a shouting match, prompting intervention from police.
Mr. Banerjee, known for his controversial past actions, including smashing a glass bottle during a parliamentary meeting, is quoted in the leaked chats as congratulating someone for their connection to the “versatile international lady.” He later identified TMC MP Mahua Moitra as the individual involved in the April 4th altercation.
While the identity of the “versatile international lady” remains unclear, the BJP is using the leaked chats to highlight the internal divisions within the TMC as it prepares for crucial Assembly elections next year. The leaked messages, along with videos reportedly showing the conflict between Banerjee and other TMC MPs, further underscore the ongoing tensions within the party. NDTV cannot independently verify the authenticity of the videos.
