Tue Apr 08 05:16:37 UTC 2025: **Supreme Court to Rule on Tamil Nadu Governor’s Stalled Bills**

NEW DELHI, April 8, 2025 – The Supreme Court is set to deliver its judgment today on the prolonged inaction of Tamil Nadu Governor R.N. Ravi regarding several state bills. The Governor’s months-long, and in some cases years-long, silence culminated in his withholding assent and referring at least 10 bills to the President for consideration.

During previous hearings, the Supreme Court expressed concern over the Governor’s lack of communication regarding his objections to the bills. Justice J.B. Pardiwala noted the Governor’s unexplained delays and subsequent referral of the bills to the President, suggesting the Governor had undisclosed reservations. The court questioned why the Governor did not articulate his concerns directly to the state government.

The Attorney General of India, R. Venkataramani, represented Governor Ravi during the proceedings. The Supreme Court’s decision is highly anticipated and will have significant implications for the relationship between the state government and the Governor’s office.
