**New Delhi, April 8, 2025** – The Indian government filed a caveat in the Supreme Court on Tuesday, seeking to be heard before any ruling is made on petitions challenging the constitutionality of the recently enacted Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025. Over ten petitions, filed by various parties including politicians and prominent Muslim organizations such as the All India Muslim Personal Law Board and Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind, contest the validity of the law.

A caveat ensures that no orders are passed without the petitioner being heard. While the petitions are expected to be listed for hearing on April 15th, this is yet to be officially reflected on the Supreme Court website. The Chief Justice had previously assured a hearing on the matter.

The Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025, which received presidential assent on April 5th following parliamentary debate, is now facing significant legal challenge. The outcome of these Supreme Court proceedings will determine the future of this contentious legislation.
