**TIRUNELVELI, April 8, 2025** – Members of the All Workers’ Union staged a demonstration in Tirunelveli on Tuesday, protesting the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation’s (EPFO) handling of pension funds. The protestors allege the government is withholding over ₹1 lakh crore from old EPFO accounts, while simultaneously claiming a lack of funds to increase pensions for approximately 80 lakh pensioners.
The union criticizes the government for waiving large corporate loans while neglecting the pension increase. They further accuse the EPFO of dragging out pension disputes through lengthy court cases instead of amicable settlements. The lack of a transparent formula for calculating increased pensions further fueled their protest.
