**Hyderabad, India** – Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan’s seven-year-old son, Mark Shankar, was injured in a fire at his school in Singapore during a summer camp. The incident, which resulted in one child’s death and several other injuries, prompted Kalyan to cut short a political campaign and fly to Singapore.
Kalyan stated that his son suffered burns to his hands and thighs and sustained smoke inhalation, requiring a bronchoscopy. While assuring the public that Shankar’s condition is not critical, he noted the smoke inhalation may have long-term effects. He added that construction workers rescued the children before firefighters arrived.
Following the incident, Kalyan received calls of support from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who offered assistance through the Indian High Commission, and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, who expressed concern and prayed for Shankar’s speedy recovery. YSRCP chief Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy also offered his support and well wishes. The PMO has initiated contact with the Indian High Commission in Singapore to provide further assistance. Kalyan expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support.
