**Chennai, April 8, 2025** – The Singapore International Foundation (SIF) and Pallium India have partnered to launch the Singapore-India: Palliative Care Accessibility Core Training (PACT) project. This initiative aims to significantly improve the quality of palliative care services across India.
Approximately 30 healthcare professionals from 14 Indian states will participate in the program, receiving training and mentorship in both clinical and non-clinical aspects of palliative care. The curriculum will cover symptom management for various conditions (including non-cancer illnesses), advance care planning, and effective communication skills for end-of-life care. The training will encompass a wide range of allied health professionals, including medical social workers, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, music therapists, and pastoral care workers.
A key component of the program includes a study trip to Singapore and participation in an online symposium. A team of Singapore International Volunteers (SIVs) with expertise in geriatrics, palliative medicine, music therapy, and adult education will lead the training, under the direction of Ramaswamy Akhileswaran, a senior palliative medicine consultant at Khoo Teck Puat Hospital.
This marks the fifth collaboration between PACT and SIF, building on successful projects in Indonesia and China. The project aligns with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 3 – good health and well-being and SDG 17 – partnerships for the goals). Trained participants will act as multipliers, sharing their knowledge with colleagues and medical students, thus expanding the reach of the program significantly.
