**Mumbai, India –** Social media influencer Apoorva Mukhija has revealed receiving a torrent of online abuse, including rape, acid attack, and death threats, following her involvement in the controversy surrounding the YouTube show “India’s Got Latent.” Mukhija shared screenshots of the horrific comments on Instagram, stating, “and that’s not even 1%,” highlighting the sheer volume of abuse she endured. This follows an earlier controversy in February where Mukhija, along with several other YouTubers and influencers, including Ranveer Allahbadia and Samay Raina, faced police questioning in Guwahati.
The controversy stems from offensive remarks made by Allahbadia on “India’s Got Latent,” specifically comments deemed inappropriate and disrespectful towards parents and sex. Allahbadia subsequently issued a public apology, acknowledging the inappropriateness and lack of humor in his statements. He expressed regret for his influence on younger audiences and pledged to use his platform more responsibly.
Comedian Samay Raina, the host of “India’s Got Latent,” also faced questioning by the Guwahati Crime Branch on April 6th, in relation to charges of promoting obscenity and vulgar content. The Guwahati Police initially filed an FIR on February 10th against several individuals involved in the show, including Mukhija, Allahbadia, Raina, and Ashish Chanchlani, under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Information Technology Act, related to obscenity and indecent representation of women. Several of the accused, including Mukhija and Chanchlani, have already appeared before the Guwahati Crime Branch to provide statements.
Mukhija’s disclosure of the online threats underscores the serious consequences of online hate speech and the need for stronger measures to protect individuals from such abuse. The ongoing investigation into the “India’s Got Latent” controversy continues.
