**Houston, TX** – Decorated Navy officer and physician Dr. Jonny Kim will blast off to the International Space Station (ISS) on April 8th, NASA announced. Kim, selected as a NASA astronaut in 2017, will serve as a flight engineer on Expeditions 72/73 aboard the Soyuz MS-27 spacecraft.

This marks Kim’s first space mission. After completing rigorous astronaut training, including extensive technical instruction, EVA (Extravehicular Activity) operations training, T-38 flight training, and Russian language acquisition, Kim supported ISS operations from Mission Control and contributed to the Artemis program. His experience also includes serving as the ISS Increment Lead for Expedition 65.

Prior to his NASA career, Kim distinguished himself as a decorated naval officer and medical doctor. A portrait of Kim in his spacesuit was released by NASA this week, showcasing his readiness for this historic mission.
