**Ahmedabad, April 8, 2025** – Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge launched a scathing attack on the BJP and RSS Tuesday, accusing them of a “well-planned conspiracy” to undermine the legacies of national heroes like Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and Mahatma Gandhi. Speaking at an extended Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting held at the Sardar Patel Memorial in Ahmedabad, Kharge asserted that Patel’s ideology directly contradicted that of the RSS, dismissing their claims to his legacy as laughable given their minimal contribution to India’s freedom struggle.
Kharge highlighted the close relationship between Sardar Patel and Jawaharlal Nehru, countering BJP narratives that portray them as rivals. He cited historical documents and speeches to demonstrate their strong bond and mutual respect, including Patel’s enthusiastic support for Nehru’s election campaigns.
The Congress leader further accused the BJP-RSS of systematically discrediting Congress icons and distorting historical narratives to serve their own political agenda. He pointed to the removal of Gandhi and Ambedkar’s statues from prominent locations in Parliament as an example of this disrespect. He also criticized the BJP for marginalizing Gandhian ideals and institutions.
Kharge emphasized the Congress party’s unwavering commitment to the Constitution and its makers, contrasting this with what he described as the BJP’s attempts to undermine India’s founding principles. He concluded by reiterating the Congress’s reverence for Sardar Patel’s legacy and its commitment to upholding the ideals of Gandhi and other national heroes. The CWC meeting, he stated, was itself a testament to this commitment.
