Tue Apr 08 11:40:00 UTC 2025: ## Bombay High Court to Hear Comedian Kunal Kamra’s Plea Against FIR
**Mumbai, April 8, 2025** – The Bombay High Court on Tuesday directed the Maharashtra government to respond to stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra’s petition challenging an FIR filed against him by the Khar Police Station. The FIR stems from a satirical video where Kamra allegedly used the term “gaddar” (traitor) in reference to Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.
The court issued a notice to the state and complainants, scheduling a hearing for April 16. Kamra’s lawyer, senior advocate Navroz Seervai, highlighted the comedian’s interim protection from the Madras High Court (valid until April 17) and expressed concern about the FIR. Seervai also stated that Kamra had offered to give a statement via video conferencing three times, citing death threats, but authorities insisted on his physical presence.
The court, while acknowledging the Madras High Court’s interim protection, set the hearing for April 16 to determine if Kamra’s physical appearance is necessary. The court will then consider the issue of whether Mr. Kamra’s physical appearance in the case is required or not. The next hearing will address this issue.
