ITANAGAR, April 8, 2025 – In a significant anti-drug operation, Itanagar Police apprehended a suspected drug supplier within the Itanagar Civil Secretariat on Monday. The suspect, a multi-tasking staff (MTS) member of the State horticulture department, was found in possession of 44.36 grams of heroin, valued at approximately ₹3.7 lakh.
The arrest followed an alert from a secretariat staff member who reported a suspicious individual in a third-floor bathroom. Security personnel apprehended the suspect, who was allegedly attempting to sell narcotics within the high-security building. A subsequent search, conducted in the presence of a magistrate, yielded eight plastic vials, a tobacco container, four used syringes, and ₹32,760 in cash. Further investigation led to the discovery of an additional 18 vials of suspected heroin hidden behind the bathroom window.
The suspect, a resident of Itanagar originally from Assam’s Tinsukia district, is currently under arrest. A case has been registered under the NDPS Act, 1985, and further investigation is underway.
Itanagar Superintendent of Police (SP) Rohit Rajbir Singh praised the swift police response and commended the civil secretariat staff for their vigilance in facilitating the arrest. The operation highlights the police department’s commitment to disrupting drug trafficking networks, even in high-security areas.
