**Mumbai, India** – Former Indian cricketer Kedar Jadhav joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday, adding a high-profile name to the party’s ranks ahead of upcoming civic body elections. The announcement was made in the presence of Maharashtra BJP chief Chandrashekhar Bawankule and former minister Ravindra Chavan.

Jadhav, 39, who retired from all forms of cricket in 2024, cited the BJP’s development-focused politics under Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis as a key reason for his decision. He praised Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and highlighted his admiration for the party’s current trajectory.

Bawankule welcomed Jadhav, describing his entry as a significant moment for the party. Chavan echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the BJP’s commitment to national and public interests. Jadhav’s joining coincides with the BJP’s ongoing membership drive, aiming to enroll 1.5 crore members across the state.

Jadhav’s international cricket career spanned from 2014 to 2020. He played 73 ODIs, scoring 1,389 runs at an average of 42.09, including two centuries and six half-centuries. He also claimed 27 wickets in his ODI career. His entry is expected to bolster the BJP’s campaign efforts in the upcoming elections.
