**Hyderabad, April 8, 2025** – The Hyderabad Prohibition and Excise Department announced a major success in its ongoing crackdown on ganja (cannabis) sales in the Dhoolpet area, a notorious hub for drug distribution. Operation Dhoolpet, launched July 17, 2024, has resulted in a record number of arrests and seizures over its 250-day run.
Authorities reported over 100 cases registered, leading to the arrest of 425 individuals. Of those arrested, 327 were remanded, 13 were bound over, and 85 remain at large. A significant amount of ganja, totaling 401 kilograms, was seized along with 147 mobile phones, 58 motorcycles, and two cars.
The operation has yielded a dramatic 90% reduction in ganja sales in Dhoolpet, according to the department. This success is attributed to the establishment of a dedicated enforcement unit in the area and the implementation of regular raids.
Director V.B. Kamalasan Reddy stated that the operation will continue with increased intensity until the ganja trade is completely eliminated. He also mentioned that joint operations with the State Task Force (STF) are underway to address concerns that some offenders have relocated their activities to other areas within the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) limits.
