Tue Apr 08 05:20:00 UTC 2025: ## Hyderabad High Court Upholds Death Sentences in Dilsukhnagar Bomb Blast Case
**Hyderabad, April 8, 2025** – The Telangana High Court today upheld the death sentences handed down to five convicts in the 2013 Dilsukhnagar twin bomb blasts case. The court dismissed appeals filed by the convicts challenging the verdict of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) court, which had sentenced them to death in December 2016.
The blasts, which occurred at a busy bus stop and a nearby market, killed 18 people and injured 131 others. Many of the injured continue to suffer from the effects of the attack.
Advocate Mohd Shujaullah Khan, who represented one of the convicts, A6 Ajaz Sheikh alias Samar Arman, argued for their acquittal in the High Court, claiming they were not involved and had no knowledge of the attacks. However, the court rejected this argument and confirmed the death penalty.
Khan has announced his intention to challenge the High Court’s decision in the Supreme Court within the next few months. This announcement has sparked outrage among the public, particularly given the immense suffering caused by the bombings. Videos of Khan speaking to the media outside the court after the verdict have gone viral, fueling public anger and criticism.
The main accused, Mohammed Riyaz alias Riyaz Bhatkal, remains at large. The five convicts who received the death sentence are: Asadullah Akhtar alias Haddi, Zia ur Rehman alias Vagah alias Nabil Ahmad, Mohammed Tahseen Akhtar alias Hasan alias Monu, Yasin Bhatkal alias Sharukh, and Ajaz Sheikh alias Samar Arman Tunde alias Sagar alias Ijaz Syed Sheikh.
The High Court’s decision has been met with relief and celebration by the victims and their families.
