**Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, April 8, 2025** – A 22-year-old youth from Koraput, Odisha, has posthumously saved five lives through organ donation. Ashish Choul Singh, who was declared brain dead after suffering a brain stroke, donated his kidneys, liver, pancreas, and small bowel.
Singh was admitted to a private hospital in Visakhapatnam on April 2nd. Despite treatment, his condition worsened, leading to his declaration of brain death on April 7th. A medical team counselled his family on the significance of organ donation, persuading them to agree to the procedure despite their grief.
The organs were successfully harvested and allocated to patients on the waiting list, based on seniority. Singh’s family expressed pride in their son’s final act of generosity, stating that they were happy he could give life to others. Dr. K. Rambabu, AP Jeevandan Coordinator and Director of Visakha Institute of Medical Sciences (VIMS), praised both the medical team for facilitating the donation and the family for their selfless decision. He also acknowledged the police for their assistance in the swift transportation of the organs.
