**Royal Leamington Spa, UK** – General Motors (GM) celebrated the opening of its new international design studio in the UK with a bang, unveiling a striking battery-powered Chevrolet Corvette hypercar concept. The futuristic vehicle, boasting over 1,000 horsepower, represents the first in a series of next-generation Corvette designs planned for rollout in 2025.
The concept, developed by GM’s British design team, features a mid-engine layout similar to the current C8 Corvette, but with a significantly lower and wider profile. A key innovation is the integration of the battery into the chassis, impacting both structure and aerodynamics. The design incorporates signature Corvette elements, including a unique twist on the iconic split window from the 1963 Sting Ray, this time featured on the front windshield.
GM emphasized the concept’s focus on structural innovation, employing 3D-printed additive manufacturing techniques inspired by aviation design. The body acts as an inverted aircraft wing, generating downforce without the need for additional spoilers. The interior features gull-wing doors and a minimalist two-seat layout.
“This concept is a testament to the creative talent within our global design network,” said GM Senior Vice President of Global Design Michael Simcoe. “Each studio brought its unique interpretation to the project, pushing boundaries and reimagining what’s possible for the Corvette.”
The new 24,584-square-foot studio in Royal Leamington Spa will further connect GM to European trends and talent. Its location near other GM operations, including Cadillac’s Formula 1 team, highlights the company’s broader commitment to the European market, where it’s expanding sales of both Corvette and electric Cadillacs. The studio employs 30 designers, led by veteran Julian Thomson, known for his work on iconic vehicles like the Lotus Elise.
While GM currently has no production plans for this hypercar concept, it signifies the brand’s ambitious vision for the future of the Corvette, building on a legacy of daring design. The company plans to unveil further Corvette design concepts later this year.
