VIJAYAWADA, April 8, 2025 – Andhra Pradesh is establishing a National Prawn Coordination Committee (NPCC), a first-of-its-kind initiative aimed at promoting the state’s seafood industry. The committee, comprising various aqua farmers’ associations, traders, and exporters, will focus on increasing domestic consumption of shrimp and other seafood.
Fisheries Minister K. Atchannaidu announced the NPCC’s formation on Monday, stating that it will operate similarly to the National Egg Coordination Committee (NECC). The committee’s goals include educating consumers about the nutritional benefits of seafood and boosting the domestic market through increased local consumption.
Deputy Speaker K. Raghu Rama Krishna Raju urged stakeholders to utilize various media platforms to promote ready-to-eat aqua products. Farmers also requested government support for seafood exhibitions to further promote consumption. The AP State Aquaculture Development Authority (APSADA) will coordinate between farmers, exporters, and traders in organizing such events.
Vijayawada East MLA Gadde Rammohan Rao suggested including fish and shrimp in defense sector food supplies. Farmers emphasized the need to encourage wider seafood consumption to prevent losses within the aquaculture sector.
