**Bengaluru, April 8, 2025** – A 28-year-old man who died following a road accident in Bengaluru has given the gift of life to eight people through organ donation. The successful multi-organ retrieval, performed at Fortis Hospital, Nagarbhavi, involved the donation of eyes, lungs, liver, heart valves, kidneys, and skin.
The victim, who suffered severe head injuries and was declared brain dead after arrival at the hospital, was initially rushed to the hospital in critical condition. Despite intensive medical intervention, his condition deteriorated. His family, amidst their grief, made the selfless decision to donate his organs.
The retrieval process, lasting approximately five hours, involved the coordinated efforts of multiple hospitals and agencies. The organs were successfully transplanted into recipients at various hospitals across Bengaluru, including Narayana Netralaya (eyes), Manipal Hospital (lungs and heart valves), HCG Hospital (liver), and Ramaiah Hospital (one kidney). A second kidney was transplanted into a 41-year-old woman at Fortis Hospital Nagarbhavi, ending her seven-year battle with kidney failure.
A “green corridor” was established to expedite the transport of the lungs and heart valves from Fortis Hospital Nagarbhavi to Manipal Hospital, covering 20 km in just 29 minutes. This life-saving initiative involved the seamless coordination of the medical team, traffic police, and the State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (SOTTO).
Dr. Pradeep Kumar S., Medical Director of Fortis Hospital, Nagarbhavi, praised the donor’s family’s courage and the dedication of the medical teams involved, expressing hope that this inspiring act will encourage more people to register as organ donors.
