Tue Apr 08 11:06:39 UTC 2025: ## Jaipur Court Sentences Four to Life Imprisonment for 2008 Bomb Blasts
**Jaipur, April 8, 2025** – A Jaipur special court today sentenced four men to life imprisonment for their involvement in the 2008 Jaipur serial bomb blasts. Sarwar Azmi, Shahbaz, Saifur Rehman, and Mohammad Saif were convicted under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, and the Explosive Substances Act. The convictions relate to the discovery of an unexploded bomb in Chandpole on May 13, 2008.
The devastating attacks on May 13, 2008, resulted in 71 deaths and 180 injuries across multiple locations in Jaipur, including Manak Chowk Khanda, Chandpole Gate, Badi Chaupad, Chhoti Chaupad, Tripolia Gate, Johri Bazar, and Sanganeri Gate. Eight bombs detonated, with a ninth discovered and defused near Chandpole Bazar.
This sentencing follows a complex legal journey. In December 2019, a court initially handed down the death penalty to Azmi, Saif, Rahman, and Mohammad Salman, while acquitting Shahbaz. However, the death row convicts successfully appealed their sentences, leading to their acquittal by the High Court on March 29, 2023. Shahbaz’s acquittal was upheld. Today’s life sentences mark a significant conclusion to this long-running case.
