**Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, April 8, 2025** – A 19-year-old woman in Varanasi was allegedly gang-raped by 23 men over a six-day period, police reported on Monday. The accused are alleged to have drugged the victim and taken her to numerous hotels and hookah bars, where she was repeatedly assaulted.
The woman went missing on March 29th, with her family filing a missing persons report on April 4th. Upon being rescued, she initially did not disclose the rape. However, her family subsequently filed a complaint alleging gang rape. The victim’s account details a harrowing ordeal involving multiple perpetrators across several locations in the city.
Six of the twelve named accused have been arrested, while 11 unnamed individuals have also been booked. Police are actively pursuing the remaining suspects. The case has been registered under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including those related to gang rape, assault, wrongful restraint, and criminal intimidation. The investigation is ongoing.
