THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, April 7, 2025 – Kerala is set to host a national conclave, “Vrithi,” focused on waste management achievements and future planning. The five-day event, organized by the Local Self-Government department, will take place at Kanakakunnu Palace from April 9th to 13th.

Minister M.B. Rajesh announced that the conclave aims to showcase Kerala’s successes in waste management, highlighting successful models and technologies. It will also feature discussions on challenges, new concepts, and training for the Haritha Karma Sena. Approximately 200 experts from seven sectors will participate in around 60 sessions covering topics such as solid and liquid waste treatment, circular economy, and public awareness.

The conclave will include interactions with those opposed to waste management plants and representatives from various political parties. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will inaugurate the conclave on April 9th, while Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar will preside over the valedictory function on April 12th.

Minister Rajesh reported significant progress in waste management, stating that 19,093 out of 19,489 panchayat wards and municipal divisions, and 1,027 out of 1,034 local bodies, have been declared “waste-free.” This includes 939 panchayats, 83 municipalities, and five corporations. Local bodies achieving 80% progress across 13 government benchmarks qualify for “waste-free” status.
