Mon Apr 07 12:40:00 UTC 2025: ## Viola Davis Trades Awards Bait for Action Heroics in New Prime Video Film “G20”

**LOS ANGELES –** EGOT winner and acclaimed actress Viola Davis is defying expectations with her latest role. Instead of pursuing another awards-season contender, Davis stars in the action-packed Prime Video film “G20,” a White House-style thriller where she plays a U.S. President who single-handedly saves herself from an attack during the G20 summit.

Speaking to The Times of London, Davis explained her decision to take on the action-hero role, stating, “I don’t think every movie you do has to be considered for an Academy Award. I wanted to do something that families could watch together, something popular.” The acclaimed actress, known for her intense dramatic performances in projects like “How to Get Away With Murder” and “Fences,” embraced the opportunity for levity and fun. She described the role as “an ass-kicking American president in a preposterous hoot of an action movie,” adding, “Hell yeah! I needed some levity in my life.”

Davis emphasized the importance of balancing her career, stating, “The only two people you owe anything to are your six-year-old self and your 80-year-old self.” The chance to fulfill a childhood dream of playing an action hero, she said, made her “six-year-old self squeal.”

“G20,” also starring Anthony Anderson, Marsai Martin, Ramón Rodríguez, Elizabeth Marvel, Sabrina Impacciatore, and Antony Starr, streams on Prime Video beginning April 10th.
