**Tiruvarur, Tamil Nadu – April 7, 2025** – The Sri Thyagarajaswamy Temple in Tiruvarur witnessed a vibrant celebration of its annual “Aazhi ther” festival on Monday. Thousands of devotees participated in the procession of the massive, 300-tonne wooden chariot carrying the processional deity, Sri Thyagarajaswamy.
The chariot, equipped with iron wheels and a hydraulic braking system, was pulled through the temple’s four car streets with the assistance of earthmovers. The event, marked by chanting and religious fervor, concluded in the evening after the chariot was returned to its deck.
The festival, which began with a flag hoisting ceremony on March 15th, is a significant religious event for the region. The “Aazhi ther” procession is a highlight, attracting large crowds of devotees.
