Mon Apr 07 00:30:00 UTC 2025: ## Telangana Congress Government Plans New Welfare Scheme Inspired by ‘Amma Hastam’
Hyderabad, [Date]: The Telangana Congress government is reportedly planning a new welfare scheme to provide essential commodities, including fine rice, to the state’s poor. The initiative draws inspiration from the “Amma Hastam” scheme launched in undivided Andhra Pradesh in 2013 by then Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy.
The original “Amma Hastam” program offered nine essential food items at a subsidized rate of ₹185. The proposed Telangana scheme, tentatively named “Indiramma Abhaya Hastam,” aims to replicate this model, providing needy families with rice, cooking oil, Bengal gram dal, sugar, and other essential groceries.
The government has already commenced a statewide distribution of fine rice, with nearly 18,000 tonnes delivered to 8.30 lakh families through 17,311 ration shops in a single day. The official launch of the “Indiramma Abhaya Hastam” scheme is expected soon. Details regarding the exact composition of the kit and the cost to beneficiaries are yet to be officially released.
