**Kollengode, Kerala, April 6, 2025** – The SNDP Yogam, a social organization representing the Ezhava community, staged a protest in Kollengode on Sunday, burning an effigy of Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) state president Syed Sadikali Shihab Thangal. The protest was a response to the IUML’s condemnation of SNDP Yogam general secretary Vellappally Natesan’s remarks about alleged mistreatment of the Ezhava community in Malappuram district.
SNDP Yogam Kollengode general secretary A.N. Anurag stated that Natesan’s comments merely highlighted the unmet needs of backward communities in Malappuram, particularly during periods of IUML governance. He specifically cited the lack of educational institutions for the Ezhava community in the district. R. Aravindakshan, SNDP Yogam president, presided over the protest.
