Mon Apr 07 04:20:00 UTC 2025: ## Saudi Arabia Suspends Visas from 14 Countries Ahead of Hajj Pilgrimage

**RIYADH** – Saudi Arabia has temporarily suspended the issuance of several visa types for citizens of 14 countries, including Bangladesh, Pakistan, and India, to manage overcrowding during the upcoming Hajj pilgrimage. The ban, effective until mid-June, affects Umrah, business, and family visit visas.

The government cites concerns about individuals entering the country on these visas and illegally performing Hajj without proper registration. Authorities allege that this has contributed to past overcrowding issues, culminating in a tragic incident during the 2024 Hajj pilgrimage where over 1,000 unauthorized pilgrims perished due to overcrowding and extreme heat.

Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman has ordered stricter visa enforcement to ensure a safe and orderly Hajj. While visas will reportedly continue to be issued until April 13th, a complete ban on new visas for citizens of the 14 affected countries will then be in effect. The identity of one of the 14 countries remains unconfirmed.

This move has disappointed many potential pilgrims from the affected nations, where thousands typically participate in the annual Hajj. The Saudi government maintains that the temporary visa restrictions are a necessary measure to prevent future tragedies and facilitate a smoother pilgrimage.
