**Kansas City, MO** – The Kansas City Royals defeated the Baltimore Orioles 8-2 on Friday night, breaking open the game with a five-run eighth inning. Maikel Garcia and Vinnie Pasquantino led the offensive charge, each driving in three runs.

Garcia’s double in the eighth plated two runs, giving the Royals a 4-2 lead. A subsequent bunt by Kyle Isbel, and a throwing error by Ryan Mountcastle, added another run. Pasquantino then capped the inning with a bases-clearing single.

Royals starter Seth Lugo pitched six innings, surrendering two runs (one earned), to earn his first win of the season (1-0). Baltimore starter Dean Kremer (1-1) lasted only 4 1/3 innings, allowing eight hits and three runs (two earned).

Gunnar Henderson made his season debut for the Orioles after starting the year on the injured list, going 1-for-4. The Orioles’ five-game series-opening win streak ended with the loss.

The Royals’ late-game heroics continue a trend: 18 of their 31 runs this season have been scored from the seventh inning onward. The Orioles, meanwhile, are without a save through their first eight games for the first time since 2003.

The two teams continue their series Saturday, with Tomoyuki Sugano pitching for Baltimore and Michael Wacha taking the mound for Kansas City.
