**Colombo, April 6, 2025** – Prime Minister Narendra Modi concluded a productive visit to Sri Lanka today, further strengthening the close relationship between the two nations. The visit, Modi’s fourth since 2015, included extensive talks with President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and the signing of several agreements focused on defense, energy, and digital cooperation.

President Dissanayake’s office emphasized the visit’s significance, highlighting its reinforcement of Sri Lanka’s crucial role within India’s “Neighbourhood First Policy” and “MAHASAGAR” vision. The statement described the visit as underscoring a “Friendship of centuries, commitment to a prosperous future,” solidifying economic, cultural, and historical bonds.

The visit yielded several key outcomes, including the joint inauguration of an upgraded railway line between Maho and Omanthai, funded by a $91.27 million Indian credit line, and an upgraded signaling system at Anuradhapura station, funded with $14.89 million in Indian government funds.

Beyond official engagements, PM Modi visited the Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi temple in Anuradhapura, a significant Buddhist site. He discussed the possibility of exhibiting Buddhist relics discovered in Gujarat with President Dissanayake and committed to supporting the development of Bodh Gaya as a spiritual city, following a request from the Chief Incumbent of the Great Eight Buddhist Shrines. The Prime Minister also met with the Chief Monk, pledging to address a memorandum requesting Buddhist administrative control over the Bodh Gaya temple.

The visit concludes a period of enhanced collaboration, promising continued growth and development for both India and Sri Lanka.
